help me test my master’s project app

2 min read |

Hi, and thanks for stopping by.

Context:

I’m at the tail-end of my MSc Advanced Computer Science and my project is on Augmented Reality in Education. I’d like to request 20 – 30 minutes of your time to test out my app and share some feedback. I will appreciate that. If you have any queries, please email me(Boyd) at 2132249 [at] swansea [dot] ac [dot] uk

My experiment is to test how useful (or not) AR is in teaching/revising Artificial Neural Networks. It is okay if you have no idea what they are. I have a slideshow (based on lecture slides) that introduces Artificial Neural Networks and how they are made. You will need two devices to help me test; an Android phone and another phone/laptop/PC. Open this page on a laptop/PC/other phone. Then, use the AR app installed on your phone to view some of the slides (those with the camera πŸ“Έ icon) to allow for additional information and interaction. This experiment is designed to work when you’re alone and when you’re working through it with another person so please find a teammate if there’s one nearby. (Remember to ask them to fill in the start quiz and end quiz responses too if they participate)

Instructions:

  1. Install the Android app from here. The only permissions it requires are camera for viewing AR content and internet for responding to the questionnaires. I do not collect any personal data.
  2. Open up the slides on Neural Networks here. They are also presented below these instructions.
  3. After opening the app, please respond to the in-app start quiz before going through the slides with the app. After using the app, please respond to the in-app end quiz.
  4. Every after finishing a slide, close the app (not minimise but close) and restart it when you’re ready to augment the next slide (see example in video below). It’s a persistent-ARSession bug I didn’t have time to fix by testing date, my apologies πŸ™πŸΎ
A YouTube video explaining how to set up the two devices.
